Dear Comrades,
We wish to inform you of the arms fair sponsored by Thailand’s military junta November 6-9 in Bangkok.
You may be unaware that we have been living here under the jackboots of a military dictatorship since May 22, 2014. Three years feels really long.
There are laws against:
a) public assembly of more than four persons
b) defaming the Thai military
c) sedition
(In short, everything is illegal and can be interpreted to mean what the generals want it to mean!) More than 1,100 political prisoners with sentences up to 70 years…for Facebook posting.
Nevertheless, we only wrote against the last arms fair here two years ago and it makes us uncomfortable not to act against this murderous business model.
So far, our only plans are to wear oversize white t-shirts with the sleeves pinned and our arms inside—NO ARMS! We do not intend to do this as a group but as individuals milling around this very highly controlled & surveilled space. We may well be arrested anyway or at least detaining for questioning.
Activists: If you’ve always wanted to visit Thailand but never had a good reason, this is it! Foreigners protesting Thailand’s arms fair would be a wonderful safety net for those of us living here.
No one knows Thailand is ruled under military coup d’etat. The world needs to know.
